I cut. I stitch. I build the rest.

General and laparoscopic surgeon with an MBA. My working life is split between the operating table and building the healthcare systems and software around it.

The story so far

I’m Omar ElBasatiny, a doctor from Cairo who ended up running the back office as well as working the clinic. I trained in general and laparoscopic surgery, and I spent my early years at a private clinic, first as an intern on the wards and later as its operations manager.

The building started with paperwork. Consent forms, incident reports, a door-to-door patient flow, a reward system for staff that people actually liked. Each one fixed something that had annoyed me on a shift, and each one made me want to fix the next thing.

I like taking things apart. I build my own PCs, I’m the person friends call when a laptop misbehaves, and I read the manual. The same habit shows up in research. I helped write the curriculum that taught medical students how to frame a question and search the literature properly, and I still edit other people’s drafts for the pleasure of it.

Right now I’m partway through an MBA, and I keep taking courses, online and in person, because there is always a gap between what I can do and what a clinic needs.

Credentials

Say hello.

For clinical collaborations, product work, or a second opinion on a system that isn’t working the way it should. I read everything and reply to most of it.
